ISLAM HAS SOLUTIONS FOR EVERYTHING – EVEN HAS AN ERROR-FREE CALENDAR
In
Islamic society, for many decades, the moon which decides the start of fasting
as well as Eid has been creating confusion and in the recent past, many media
including Internet are coming up with hot discussions on whether it is actual
sighting, or calculation of the birth of hilaal which determines the start of
the Hijri month. It has reached to
such a level so as to harbor doubts in the minds of people about an Islamic
solution in solving such a confusion. Some may even has concluded that Islam do
not have any solution regarding the start of the lunar month and that three
dates for a single week-day is Islamic !!!.
But,
a True Muslim is sure that Islam, which
gives practical, correct and apt
solutions to each and every day-to-day problems and predicaments faced by man, definitely has a solution for this grave
problem too which decides the start of fasting in Ramdhaan, which is one of the
pillars of Islam.
Noble
Qur’an 17:9 – “Anyone who desires the Hereafter and makes a proper effort to achieve
it, being a true believer, shall find favour with Allah for his endeavours.”
This
being the case, it is now certain that the fault is with Muslims and not on Islam
Dheen. Those who have not researched the
subject thoroughly and those who have come to conclusions with their own
half-cooked derivatives are the culprits.
In fact, many just ignored or discarded what Noble Quran says on lunar month.
(Naudubillah)
Noble
Qur’an 25:30 - “The Messenger will say, "Lord, my people
did indeed discard the Quran,"
Many
Muslims proudly proclaim that Islam alone goes with the scientific realities
and truth. But when it comes to lunar months, about which Noble Quran very
clearly gives directions, just make a U-turn and adamantly argue that the lunar
months should be started only after seeing the hilaal on the West with naked eye
after sun-set!! They do not realize that the hilaal seen on
the West is the setting one. It is surprising to note that they reject
Lunar calculations but have no objection
in depending on the calculations of solar data. They follow
the timing depending on Sun for daily 5 time prayers. Majority of Muslims show such one-sided
leniency on Sun data and reject Moon data.
One must ponder on whether such a partiality is justifiable in the light of the following Quran verses:
Noble
Qur’an 55:5 – “The sun and the moon run on their fixed courses
(exactly) calculated with measured out stages for each (for reckoning, etc.).”
Noble
Qur’an 14:33 - “And He has made the sun and the moon, both constantly pursuing their
courses, to be of service to you; and He has made the night and the day, to be
of service to you.”
When
Almighty Allah Himself states in the above verses that Sun and Moon move with precise
calculations and that they have been subjected to us so as to calculate,
majority of Muslims say that they will accept only solar calculations and
not the lunar calculations. Even if the lunar movements are calculated
precisely they have no regret in rejecting it.
Those who reject Lunar calculations and accept only solar calculations
must ponder over what Noble Quran says in 2:85;
“Then do you believe in a part of the Scripture
and reject the rest? Then what is the recompense of those who do so among you,
except disgrace in the life of this world, and on the Day of Resurrection they
shall be consigned to the most grievous torment. And Allah is not unaware of
what you do.”
If one analyse what Almighty Allah says in His
Book as well as what has been taught by His Messenger (Sallallaahu alaihi wa
sallam) about the lunar months, we can easily find a solution to the confusion
in starting the lunar months.
What is Hilaal?
Majority
of Muslims think that hilaal has to be seen only for two Eids and for the rest
of the year Hilaal has no significance.
This itself is the main reason for all the confusion in this
regard. Let us see what Almighty Allah
says with regard to hilaal:
Noble
Qur’an 2:189 – “They ask you about the phases of the moon. Say,
"They are a means of determining time (dates) for the regulation of
people's affairs and for the pilgrimage." Piety does not consist in
entering your houses from the rear. Indeed, one who guards himself against evil
out of fear of Allah is the truly righteous one. Enter your houses by their
doors and be mindful of Allah, so that you may prosper.”
Noble
Qur’an 2:282 – “Believers, when you contract a debt for a
stated term, put it down in writing; have a scribe write it down with fairness
between you.”
Qataada (RA) explains the context at
which the verse “People are asking about
‘Ahilla’ and tell them that they are the
dates for mankind (2:189)” was revealed.
People asked the Prophet (Sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam) about the
purpose of Ahilla (plural of hilaal) and
Prophet (Sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam) replied that the Ahilla are the
dates for Muslims and Almighty Allah has arranged them for completing their
obligatory fasting in Ramdhaan, to
celebrate Eid, to calculate Iddha of their women, to record their transactions
etc. …………………. ( Jaamiyul bayaan fi tafseerul Quran li Tibri 6972)
Note: Allah (SWT) asks to record the period of
transactions. Prophet (Sallallaahu
alaihi wa sallam) too teaches that Ahilla are the dates. But, the present-day Muslims just avoid the
hilaal throughout the year except on three occasions. Is this the Sunnah???
The Asbabun
Nuzul of the verse 2:189 which is as follows also clearly states that phases
are the dates:
Said al-Kalbi: “This was revealed about Mu‘adh ibn Jabal and
Tha‘labah
ibn ‘Anmah, both of whom were of the Ansar. These two men
said: ‘O Messenger of Allah! How is it that the moon first looks fine like
a thread, then it grows until it becomes full and round, but then it starts
to decrease and become fine again as it initially was. It never stays in
one form?’ And as a response, Allah revealed this verse”
It is
now clear that the phases (waxing & waning ) are the dates for the people
throughout the year and not just for 3 days of the year.
ARE THE
PHASES RESTRICTED TO PARTICULAR REGIONS OR ARE THEY UNIVERSAL ?
Some
say that the phases seen at certain region are meant for them alone and not for
other regions. This is unwise and
contrary to Noble Quran. Almighty Allah
says that Ahillah as “Mawaaqeethu linaas” or as the dates for
whole mankind, not for a particular region.
Wherever
“li naas” is used in Noble Quran, it
means “for the whole mankind” and nowhere in Noble Qur’an it is said that it means “ for
a particular region” or “restricted to a particular section of the people”.
Noble
Qur’an 2:21 – “O mankind! Worship your Lord (Allah), Who created you and those who
were before you so that you may become Al-Muttaqun”
Noble
Qur’an 2:185 – “The month of Ramadan in which was revealed the
Quran, a guidance for mankind
and clear proofs for the guidance and the criterion (between right and wrong).”
Noble
Qur’an 3:9 – “Our Lord! Verily, it is You Who will gather mankind together on the Day
about which there is no doubt. Verily, Allah never breaks His Promise".
We
should understand that Ahillah which shows dates for whole man-kind should not be
restricted to certain regions and that such restrictions are contrary to the
essence of Quran.
Just
as the whole world completes the Jummuah prayer, within a period of 24 hours,
on a week-day called Friday, the whole world too can attain the Eid within
a period of 24 hours.
IS IT NECESSARY TO WATCH THE HILAAL WITH
NAKED EYE EVERY MONTH IN ORDER TO START THE NEW MONTH ???
Those
who insist on seeing the hilaal on the West in order to start the new month turn-up
with unwarranted objection that Ramdhaan
should be started only after seeing the hilaal with naked eye. But, Almighty Allah says that it is possible
to know in advance the start of lunar months:
Noble
Qur’an 10:5 – “It is He Who made the sun a shining thing and
the moon as a light and measured out its (their) stages, that you might know
the number of years and the reckoning. Allah did not create this but in truth.
He explains the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations,
etc.) in detail for people who have knowledge.”
Moreover,
it was in 2 H, fasting in Ramdhaan was made mandatory. Till Prophet’s (Sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam)
wafaath, he (SAW) started nine
Ramdhaans. During these nine occasions,
there is no authentic hadeeth which says that he (Sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam)
has ever went in search of the hilaal at
Magrib or asked the Sahaba (RA) to do so.
None, who insist on seeing the hilaal with naked eye in order to start the new month, has so far
produced any such hadeeths.
It is
reported in Bukhari 2015 that a few Sahaba (RA) dreamt about Lailathul Qadr and
when Prophet (Sallallaahu alaih wa sallam) was informed, he (SAW) said that
since their (RA) dream matched with the last 7 days of Ramdhaan, asked them to
search Lailathul Qadr among the last 7 days.
Just
think over: No one among the Sahaba (RA)
asked Prophet (SAW) whether last 7 days means from “23 to 29” or from
“24 to 30” ?? Whereas, the majority of Muslims are not even sure
whether the last day of the month is the
present day or the following day !!!!
Is
this the Sunnah ???
More
over in Bukhari, it is reported that no
one should fast on the day before the first of Ramdhaan as well as the previous
day (ie., the last two days of Sha’baan) except those who are regularly fasting
on these days.
This
hadeeth clearly states that the Sahaba (RA) were aware, in advance, which were
the last 2 days of Sha’baan.
Can
the Jamaaths who start the month of Ramdhaan only after seeing the hilaal with
naked eye , intimate, in advance, which are the last 2 days of Sha’baan
??? If they cannot, then how can they
claim that they are following Sunnah ???
Islam
has solutions to all the problems which a Muslim faces till the Day of Qiyaamath
and it includes the calendar too. The
majority of Muslims are neither looking for the Hijri calendar nor studying
about it, but simply following the erroneous Gregorian calendar which has months bearing the names of Greek god & goddesses
and which has months with 28 as well as
31 days. Is it correct ??? Think over.
Noble
Quran says : 2:120 - “Never will the Jews or the Christians be pleased with you (O Muhammad
Peace be upon him) till you follow their religion. Say: "Verily, the
Guidance of Allah (i.e. Islamic Monotheism) that is the (only) Guidance. And if
you (O Muhammad Peace be upon him) were to follow their (Jews and Christians)
desires after what you have received of Knowledge (i.e. the Quran), then you
would have against Allah neither any Wali (protector or guardian) nor any
helper.”
Noble
Qur’an 48:28 – “He it is Who has sent His Messenger (Muhammad
SAW) with guidance and the religion of truth (Islam), that He may make it
(Islam) superior over all religions. And All-Sufficient is Allah as a Witness.”
Noble
Qur’an 61:9 – “He it is Who has sent His Messenger (Muhammad SAW) with guidance and the
religion of truth (Islamic Monotheism) to make it victorious over all (other)
religions even though the Mushrikun (polytheists, pagans, idolaters, and
disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah and in His Messenger Muhammed SAW) hate
(it).”
Almighty
Allah, through His Messenger (SAW) has taught
us solutions to all, we repeat ALL problems.
HE, the Almighty did not leave us with empty-hands with regard to
Calendar too. Nor, He the Almighty instructed us to follow the Christian
calendar. Those who think so must ponder
over the state of their belief.
One
must also remember that when one uses
Gregorian Calendar, one agrees that it is either BC or AD. AD means “Anno Domini” which is Medieval
Latin, translated as “In the year of the Lord, and as “in the year of Our Lord”. It is sometimes specified more fully as Anno Domini Nostri Iesu (Jesu)
Christi ("In the Year of
Our Lord Jesus Christ").
Can a Muslim knowingly or unknowingly accept Jesus (PBUH) as
the Lord ??? Do not they realize that such a statement amounts to SHIRK, the grievous sin which
Almighty Allah will never forgive??
Does Islam accepts Hijri Lunar calendar or Solar Christian calendar ??
Does Islam accepts Hijri Lunar calendar or Solar Christian calendar ??
Many would have now agreed that Islam
prescribes only Hijri Lunar calendar and that there should be only one date for a week-day, for the
whole world.
Hence,
all are requested to study the Quran verses and authentic hadeeeth which teach
us about Hijri calendar and to follow Almighty Allah’s calendar for the success
in this world as well as in the hereafter.
The
basic concept in making True Hijri Calendar is to consider the Universal Day in
which Conjunction takes place as the last day of the month and to start the new
month at Fajr on the following Universal Day, irrespective of the time of
Conjunction and/or Sunset-Moonset difference at Makkah or elsewhere.
